FAQs
What is Somatic Experiencing (SE)™?
Somatic Experiencing® is a body approach to resolving and releasing embodied traumas. SE works with the autonomic nervous system to establish feelings of safety that enable the renegotiation of trauma.
What can SE™ help me with?
SE can help with big traumas, like sexual assault, war, and accidents, as well as ongoing stress, anxiety, and emotional trauma.
How many sessions will i need?
There is no way to tell exactly how many sessions will be needed. Generally, I recommend starting with 4 sessions so you can really get a good feel for what sessions are like.
How does SE™ work?
In our sessions we will seek to establish a connection with your body by tracking your physical sensations, and physiological responses. Through tracking these sensations and responses we are able to access stuck trauma responses in the body, complete survival responses and release trauma from the body.
Who can do SE™?
Absolutely anyone can do SE. For clients that are on psychiatric medications, it is important to reinforce that SE cannot be used as a replacement for psychiatric medications.
Why should i try SE™?
Most therapies work top-down, meaning traumas are worked through intellectually with the hope it will be translated to the body. SE works bottom-up, resolving and releasing trauma in the body first, stabilizing the autonomic nervous system, resulting in the intelectual renegotiation of trauma.
