Hi, I’m liz mello.

I’m a Somatic Experiencing™ practitioner and Death Doula.

I was born and raised in Washington Heights, New York City, to a multicultural family. With a Brazilian immigrant mother and a father of Greek and Brazilian heritage, I grew up bilingual in Portuguese and English. After earning my Bachelor's Degree in Social Work at Warren Wilson College in North Carolina, I relocated to Brazil, where I provided care for my child and mourned the loss of my partner.

Returning to New York City, I focused on assisting homeless veterans and those at risk of homelessness. Through this work, I recognized that trauma was often the underlying cause of their challenges. This revelation led me to discover Somatic Experiencing®️, a life-changing approach to addressing and resolving trauma. Inspired by a conversation with my mother about the traumatic impact of death in our society, I pursued INELDA's death doula training, becoming a certified Death Doula.

Now residing in Florianopolis, Brazil, I utilize my expertise to compassionately support individuals and families during the end-of-life process and through the inevitable traumas of life.

My Approach

My approach to my practice is to engage with clients with authentic presence. This allows for us to slow down and enables deep understanding of the work we will embark on together.

SLOWING DOWN

There is an invitation for a slow, calm and careful approach to attending to embodied trauma. Together we can safely explore what arises in our therapeutic sessions together.

Building Trust

Over time, and through relational presence and experiencing, together we will build a trusting, authentic and intuitive relationship. Trust can take time and our built trust will be at the forefront of each of our sessions.
